Why do "Health Nuts" not look so healthy?

Are you the "Healthy" one in your group of friends or family. Do you eat all the right stuff, religiously take every supplement that is recommended by Dr. Oz, exercise, consume whole grains and beans, veggies and stay away from junk food etc? Are you almost neurotic about it? Ok, that's me, I can't say I am always vigilant, we can all fall into the trap of the double chocolate birthday cake now and then, but in general, I work fairly hard at doing what I believe to be the right thing when it comes to what I eat without driving every waiter or companion crazy. Salad has been my staple when in doubt on any occasion. Some time ago, I found that I chipped my front tooth and have been on a search for resolution every since. In my journey an observation arose. Over the years I have been posed the question from those "health nuts" which is... I do everything right, I eat right, I exercise, I don't drink or smoke, I do everything right, so why am I

I'm trying to get pregnant and I have tried everything, even invitro isn't working...

I've had several people say that to me lately in my practice, as if they hadn't seen all the publicity lately about how great Acupuncture is for Infertility, so I wanted to put more coverage out there for all those couples who still haven't heard. There are several advantages to using Oriental Medicine as an approach to assist fertility. The benefits of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in treatment for the infertile couple can be found in early Chinese medical literature dating back to the 11AD. Not only do these techniques assist in regulating the menstrual cycle and invigorating the sperm, but they also serve to enhance the function of the whole body. And nothing so invasive as Invitro, but if you decide to go the Invitro route, their is significant evidence that Acupuncture increases the ability to get pregnant. Balance is everything! Migraine Headaches - there are solutions

Migraine Headaches - seems everyone is getting them lately, at least I have been hearing about it lately, more then ever... I was plagued with Migraines for years. My mother had Migraines also. In those days, no one knew what they were and they were thinking to have her put in a care facility. She had to give up her job at the time because, they were so debilitating and she couldn't function. Some nice doctor found info on the subject and gave her caffeine pills, which worked for a while but basically, they told her she had to learn to reduce her stress. (a little tough with a full time job, and 4 kids running around the house, she was quite the super-mom). I started getting Migraines  when I went away to college, once they came on, it was 3 days before I was normal again (actually on the 3rd day I was almost euphoric, I thought from the relief). Now, I feel like I know so much about Migraine Headaches it is ridiculous! And I am always looking for more info to add (must be my A-typ

Acupuncture Demonstrations

I am finding that people, in general, are a bit mystified by Acupuncture. They are not sure what it really is, what it does, if it hurts (or how it can be possible that it does not hurt, since the word "needles" are involved) and have never experience it or even know how to find someone who does it. Basically, I find, people never start looking for Acupuncture, until they have tried everything else. Which is why I started offering Acupuncture Demonstrations to small groups in the area: to spread the word, so to speak. Acupuncture is so good for so many things, it is my hope that people will consider Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine  before  considering prescription drugs. The "Less is More" approach. How to get health and healing education included in global healthcare?

I have a dream, and I apologize as maybe it is a bit political but, I think it is necessary to speak up, and time for a change. With all the talk about a  Global Health Care System  and the great possibility that it will be implemented in the next presidential term on some level, I would like to suggest that a program be included to  re-educate the population  starting at the  grades school level  about  health and healing . Many of us in the Alternative health care fields have long-known that the  prescription drug companies run the health care world  and some of us believe they highly influence the physicians that prescribe their drugs. Not to say there is no place for prescription drugs, but I am fairly certain that we as a nation, are over medicated. Acupuncture for example, even though it has been around, in different areas of the world, for thousands of years, and there is a multitude of research to prove its clinical effectiveness in other countries, it is said to be "di

The Diet Cola Story by Patricia J Ahner

A friend of mine had been gaining weight for the past maybe 5-6 years, I told her to eliminate the diet cola she had been drinking, to lose weight. She finally did, in 2 months  she lost 25 lbs  without changing anything else. She not only lost weight, she looked healthier and appeared  10 years younger , her eyes were clearer, she was less tired, her thinking was clearer and her emotions were stable. Just doing diet & exercise to lose weight is not the trick. People need to know how their body works to really lose weight and stay healthy. “Diet” is too general, people don’t seem to know:  diet should not mean stop or reduce what you eat , but choose what you eat very carefully and you will not be hungry and you will lose weight.  Start slow, don’t overwhelm yourself, stress eating doesn't help anyone! GETTING STARTED: WHAT NOT TO PUT IN YOUR BODY: 3 main things that stop the body from losing weight and keeping it off: Diet things - anything with artificial sugars – seem

GREAT Infertility Choice

Great Infertility Choice: Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine The treatment of infertility with acupuncture and Chinese medicine dates back 2,000 years. These ancient, time-tested techniques improve fertility rates and support a woman's whole body, unblocking unlimited potential for health, healing and childbearing. A landmark study published in the medical journal Fertility & Sterility1 found that acupuncture dramatically improves the chances of becoming pregnant when used in conjunction with other assisted reproductive techniques. Researchers from Weill Cornell Medical Center2 in New York reviewed studies and concluded that acupuncture helps to: . increase blood flow to the uterus, which improves the chances of an ovum implanting on the uterine wall . reduce anxiety, stress, and the hormones that are secreted during stressful situations that can significantly decrease fertility . normalize hormone and endocrine systems that regulate ovulation, especially in women with

Pregnancy and Mental Clarity: No Blood?

I just read a blog about loss of memory, learning potential during pregnancy. In Chinese Medicine, " blood nourishes the brain " and affects the memory. This is a great opportunity also to nourish the mother's body as well as the baby. There are many factors that can affect memory, but basically, the blood needs to be available and qi needs to be moving. Nourish the blood :  Chinese herbs  are a great way to nourish the blood,  whole food organic supplements  are another way along with nutritional whole foods. Qi needs to be moving  to carry the blood to the brain: Acupuncture can  regulate the Qi . If there are blockages in the Qi flow, it can lead to other issues as well.  Move a little , do some stretching (if you are not advised not to!) This  moves the lymph and blood , but don't overdo it. Keep the flow : Remove things from your diet and lifestyle that interrupt the flow of Qi and Blood.  Eliminate   artificial sugars , tap water (filter your water). If

Tap Away Your Troubles

Emotional Memory   Have you heard the saying: I know it by heart? Well it seems there is something to that. There is a system utilizing tapping that can change your emotional memory. Emotional Memory is stored in the Limbic system of your Brain. Emotional memory is useful, if you burn your hand on the stove for example, you need to have an automatic system to remember not to put your hand near the burner. When adrenaline is involved, or when your body gets a   rush,   your body easily stores emotional memory, so whatever is happening at the time of the   rush , is stored in the brain as an emotional memory. Sometimes things can be distorted and suddenly, you find you are afraid of heights, bridges, elevators, speaking in front of group or other things. This is when it is not advantageous to keep that emotional memory. Tapping Technique   Here is what you can do to rid yourself of unneeded fears, anxiety, frustration, irritation, aggravation, worry, doubt, insecurities with

Livin' in the Zone-where are my people?

We have all heard of athletes being "in the zone". It is a place where everything is in slow motion, you become very focused and everything else in the world is outside of that yet, you are flowing in unison with everything around you. You are unstoppable. It is a great feeling and is not limited to athletes. Artists like writers and painters have the same experience, as if something is running through them and they are in sinc with everything on the same wavelength. Healers have the same experience. There is a pulse of the universe running through all of us and an interconnectiveness. It is not a coincidence that some people just click with certain people and not with a other people. When we are not trying, the most wonderful things happen because our minds are turned off and we are living in the zone, open to possiblities. I don't know how many people told me they met their spouse after they stopped looking, or they got the perfect job after running into someone on the

Needles for Wrinkles

It happens now and then, a patient comes in for a health complaint and starts asking about whether Acupuncture really works for wrinkles. The first Acupuncture Facial I did was in a clinic where there several Acupuncturist. Patients were rotated between practitioners. I did the first treatment, the women was in her mid 40's and she had some wrinkles around her eyes, forehead and mouth, nothing outstanding but it definitely aged her. The next time I saw her was on her 7th visit. I had to do a double take. She looked to be 10 years younger. I had heard that acupuncture it was an effective face life / rejuvenation but, when you see it first hand, it seems more impressive. I think it struck me more, because I had not seen her for so many treatments. The other practitioners that were there that day, agreed there was a noticable change after even the 3rd visit. Everyone is different of course, but if you are looking for a good alternative to going under the knife or botox, that is

Eating the Apple Core

Consider the power of a seed. When planted, it can give LIFE. Grow into another apple tree or avocado tree, tomato plant etc. Seeds, when broken down to micro-sizes, release healthful phytonutrients/phytochemicals. Things like beets, broccoli stems, avocado and apple seeds have been shown to address a myriad of health issues. There is evidence from laboratory studies that phytochemicals in fruits and vegetables may reduce the risk of cancer, possibly due to dietary fibers, polyphenol antioxidants and anti-inflammatory effects. Food Therapy and good food choices are at the root of good health. But how to you know what foods  do , which seeds address what issues? I found an excellent book to get you started with all types of great information. I have been searching, for years, to find a compilation of this information and just stumbled across it recently. I was compelled to pass on the info to anyone listening (check out this link for more info) www.healingx.org/FoodTherapy.htm Fr

Water for Health

Which one is best...Spring, Purified, Distilled, Alkaline. Everybody is talking about Kangen / Alkaline water... I remember when Distilled water was all the rage. Everybody was buying Distillers, but why? What is the difference? Spring water is so popular, they serve it in most every restaurant. It is a huge business. I was recently at a trade show and the city was promoting tap water. It is already filtered, right? So why are we buying bottled water? Basically, we think we are getting better water, with better benefits right??? How do you decide which water to drink? Here is a the low down... Spring water , comes from springs and has minerals and bacteria from the area to benefit immunity etc. right? yes, however the minerals are found to be too large to actually absorb and get any real benefit. Bacteria, might be good now and then, but at the cost of plastic that leaches into the bottle when light is present, not so good. Distilled water has nothing in it, right? Distilled is most li

Smoking, French Fries and Chlorine Bleach

I had a dream last night. I was standing in a line to pay my taxes when the girl in the next line said to me " Do you care if I smoke ?" I suddenly realized that she was not asking if the smoke bothered me (as I have always thought in the past and brushed off with a bewildered, questionable "no"). I realized that she was asking me if I  CARED  if she smoked. My reply? "Yes I CARE if you smoke, I CARE about you! You are my sister, you are my brother, you are the friend that I have not yet met, I CARE about you! We are all one people, we are all human, we are living breathing, organic beings, connected in spirit on this living breathing, transforming planet...I CARE about you. Would you try to feed an apple to a piece of plastic? NO! Do I CARE if you SMOKE? Yes, I care" I then began to think of all of the people who have ever asked me that same question and my injustice to their question. I felt guilty, for not telling them that I  care  about them.  I never
